Exploring Kinte Cloth and Pattern Making

This week we extended the K's Africa Unit to the math room. The children looked at kinte cloth patterns, and discussed colors and lines and patterns. We made "cloth" from brown paper drawn on, krinkled up, and painted, and created strips of designs with straight edges and colors.

Playing Games, Then Creating Our Own Games!

We began the week playing all sorts of games. We talked about the rules, themes, pieces, ways to move or activate the game, and all of the ins and outs of taking turns.

THEN we created our own games. There were a lot of questions to answer: How will the pieces move? What's the action of the game? What are the rules? Will it work?

The K's created colorful games with rules and pieces, and then tried them out with their peers. They were very proud of their work!

Until Next Time,
