Numbers and Measuring

We began the week practicing counting games and making representative designs of numbers. The mathematicians measured themselves using units of cubes. They needed to work in pairs to count up the very high numbers for their heights! We have also been practicing writing numbers. Practice makes for easier number writing!

Numbers, Here We Come (again)

Our Geometry unit is finished and now we are heading back into the study of our numbers. We'll be looking at number combinations, number and story problems, and playing games with many steps to add or subtract numbers. The children will continue to practice writing and identifying numbers. We will continue to practice working together for a common goal, working in pairs, and supporting eachother's learning.  Numbers, Numbers, Numbers.

Until Next Time,
Michele

3-D and 2-D shapes

We finished up our shape unit this week. We explored making 3-D shapes out of clay. To test our knowledge of the vocabulary of shapes we created riddles about our "favorite" shape and then tested the first graders! We stumped everyone. Some of the riddles were; "My favorite shape rolls" and "My favorite shape looks like a ball."
